Classes were canceled at a number of Hudson Valley schools after mold was found.

In a letter to parents, Dover Union Free School District Superintendent Michael Tierney announced that mold was found at Wingdale Elementary and Dover Elementary.

After mold was found at Elm Drive Elementary in Millbrook due to recent unseasonably high temperatures and humidity, Tierney requested his schools be checked for mold Friday afternoon.

Mold was found under a number of desks, tables and other furniture, according to Tierney. Air samples were also taken as part of the inspection to figure out the type of mold and the steps for remediation. Those results should be known on Tuesday.

Wingdale Elementary was closed for all students, faculty and staff on Monday. Dover Elementary remained open because the affected areas were sealed off, Tierney said.

Elm Drive Elementary in Millbrook will be closed for at least six weeks for mold remediation.
