On November 2, campus police were summoned to a meeting at Manchester Community College (MCC) in Manchester, CT. after Charles Meyrick, a professor at Housatonic Community College (HCC) allegedly became agitated during a meeting and gave the "Nazi salute," which he is said to have held for 5 to 10 minutes.

According to a story in the Hartford Courant, Meyrick held the Nazi salute until campus police arrived. Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system (CSCU) told the Courant that Meyrick has been placed on leave pending an investigation. Ojakian stated the action:

Does not fit with our community's culture and values, we must hold ourselves to a higher standard of civility, decency, and respect.

During a discussion about aligning the curricula of the 12 community colleges across campuses, Meyrick began shouting and eventually held up his arm in a drawn-out Nazi salute. I'm thinking that a "Heil Hitler" would most certainly capture everyone's attention, but used as a bargaining chip? Not so much! I would genuinely like to chat with Professor Meyrick to find out his reasons behind his actions. According to the Courant, Meyrick could not be reached for comment.
