No, there's nothing wrong with your computer. And if you haven't rushed to Twitter yet, we'll save you the trouble: yes, Facebook posting is down and Instagram is buggy.

Hudson Valley residents were greeted with the following error when they went to post a status update on Facebook: "Oops. Something went wrong. We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can."

Downdetector.com noted a surge of reports that began at about 11:56AM. Their outage map for Facebook showed a surge in reports in the Northeast from Washington, D.C. through New York, though a cursory search of the Twitter free-for-all on the topic indicates the reach is well beyond the greater metropolitan areas.

Instagram users began reporting problems with the photo-sharing app shortly after Facebook seemed to go haywire. Downdetector.com reported the first issues arising at 12:01PM. The largest outages for Instagram were reported in the greater New York area and around Los Angeles and Toronto, according to the Downdetector.com outage map.

Facebook confirmed they were working to restore service in a tweet sent 1:49PM EST.

How are you spending your social media-free time? Are you actually talking to people? Like, real conversations?
