The Women's Center of Greater Danbury's mission is to end violence against women, men and children. Every year, the Center holds a SafeWalk, their premier event to unite the community in their mission to end domestic violence as well as their major fundraiser. This year's walk is Sunday, September 30 at Danbury Fair Mall.

Last year, the Center had nearly 1000 participants and raised nearly $70,000.

This year's walk is especially important to the Guerrero family of Brookfield. Alyssa Guerrero was just 21 years old, had recently moved to Meriden to be closer to her job, and was fatally stabbed on May 2. Her ex-boyfriend is charged with the murder and had several prior restraining orders barring him from having any contact with Alyssa, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

I spoke with Alyssa's father, Ciro Guerrero, last week. They are a wonderful family and have very understandably been struggling with their loss. The family has become involved with the Women's Center, who will be honoring Alyssa Sunday at the Walk. Registration begins at 8:30 AM, with opening remarks at 9:15 and the walk at 9:30.
