Detectives had a hunch that Rivers had left the state, and decided to call in the U.S. Marshals. At around 2pm on Monday, May 1, the U.S. Marshals corraled Rivers in Raleigh, North Carolina.

A warrant was obtained by NHPD Homicide Detective Michael Wuchek charging Rivers with Lewis's murder. Rivers, who is a convicted felon with a long rap sheet, has also been charged with criminal possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. Bond has been set at $2 million.
