Like traffic isn't bad enough during the day on I-84 in Greater Danbury, now we have a few night time exit closures to look forward to this week.

Both exits 9 and 10 in Newtown will experience evening closures this week, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. They said that the closures and associated detours “are necessary for them to do construction and safety improvement work on I-84 in Newtown.”

Here's how the closure may affect you:

I-84 westbound Exit 10 will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, May 15th and 16th between the hours of 10 pm and 5 am.

I-84 eastbound closure at exit 9 will happen on Friday and Saturday May 17th and 18th between 10 pm and 5 am.

The DOT has set up detours that will take drivers onto route 6 and route 25 while the construction is going on.

State Representative Mitch Bolinsky shared some information for area residents through an email to the Newtown Bee:

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in the vicinity and avoid distractions. These inconveniences are short-term and temporary but part of the state's long-term investment in bridge maintenance and overall safety.

If your a local residents with questions about the closures, you are invited to contact Mr Bolinsky at 800-842-1423 or mitch.bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov.
