A man has been arrested after police say a routine traffic stop turned up a stolen gun.

According to the Connecticut State Police, a trooper observed 30-year-old Leon R. Spady of New Rochelle, NY operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed in the area of exit 6 on Interstate 84, headed westbound.

Aside from the fast pace at which he was driving, the trooper says he also spotted Spady driving with his cell phone in his right hand, directly in front of his mouth as he passed the unmarked cruiser.

When the trooper began to monitor the vehicle's actual speed, Spady's vehicle was allegedly clocked at 75 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

Once the vehicle was pulled over, the responding trooper alleges that he could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger side, prompting the trooper to ask Spady to get out of the vehicle for a roadside interview.

At that point, Leon Spady allegedly told the trooper that there was a firearm inside the vehicle.

Once the hand gun (pictured above) was located, police say that it was found to have been stolen out of somewhere in Atlanta, GA.

Spady was then arrested and taken into custody without incident.

The passenger of the vehicle was reportedly charged with possession of less than half of an ounce of marijuana.
