Local police are searching for answers after a pair of human legs were found on Court Street near the State Street Train Station in New Haven on Wednesday.

Fox CT reports that police were tipped off by a passerby who approached an officer and told him that he saw body parts near the train station. Police officers on the scene found the two the dismembered human legs among trees and a railroad fence.

New Haven Police Officer David Hartman told FoxCT that the legs have most likely been there for a week and that authorities are currently unable to identify the race, gender or age of the victim. The medical examiner is expected to release more details about the identity of the victim, once their office retrieves the dismembered legs.

Police are currently looking through area missing persons cases to see if they can find who the limbs might belong to.
