The Newtown Police Department has provided an update with some more information regarding the accident that took place on Monday afternoon (March 4).

According to the department, a 79-year-old Bridgewater man was was traveling southbound in an SUV on South Main St., with the intention of turning left in the driveway of King's Breakfast & Lunch. The man attempted the turn in front of a Monroe couple also driving an SUV, traveling in the opposite direction, which caused the couple to turn right into the King's driveway in order to avoid a collision.

Unfortunately, in the process of avoiding that crash, the vehicle that the Monroe couple was driving struck and crashed through an exterior wall of the restaurant, as pictured above. It's also been reported that the vehicle's front bumper lightly struck a pedestrian who was sitting in a chair with her back facing the SUV.

When we reached out to contact the people at King's, they confirmed the accident and that there were no injuries, but said that they are certainly a bit overwhelmed at the moment, and understandably so.

Many people travel far and wide to enjoy the food at the famed establishment located at 271 South Main St, which is known for their absolutely incredible breakfast menu.

As much of a tragedy as it is that the beloved restaurant will clearly have to go through some extensive renovations and repair, we can all be thankful that no one was seriously hurt.
