Movie About The Danbury Trashers May Be In The Works

Danbury's original "Bad Boys of Hockey," the fabled Danbury Trashers, may be coming to the silver screen.

According to an article on the Hollywood website Deadline, a film production company called Yellow Bear Films has purchased a script based on a 2014 Sports Illustrated article written about the team. So far, it seems like a pretty high-powered bunch involved with the film. The script was written by Adam Perlman, who co-produces the Showtime series "Billions." The producer is Tom McNulty, who produced the hit comedy "Date Night" with Steve Carell and Tina Fey.

If this project comes to fruition, it should be awesome. The Trashers put Danbury hockey on the map with their swagger, fights, winning teams on the ice, and rowdy fans. From the second the lights went down and "Welcome to the Jungle" blared over the PA, you knew you were in for a great night.

The film, like the SI article that inspired it, will focus on the team's then 17-year old GM, A.J. Galante, as he and his father, James Galante, built the team into the hottest ticket in town, and the team's sudden end after the senior Galante was arrested. The Trashers set the record for most penalty minutes in a single season in the history of hockey, while at the same time winning a lot of games and packing the Danbury Ice Arena every game. The movie script was described as "Slap Shot" meets "Superbad."

A.J. Galante told Deadline,

I am proud to of been part of a great team who created stuff of legend. I never expected 14 years ago that our minor league hockey team and myself could be subject for a potential movie, however this story deserves to be told.

I really hope this movie happens. I was a huge Trashers fan and I'll definitely be lining up to see it. Viewing party in Section 102, anyone?
