They have been the rotisserie experts since 1985, at least that is the company's claim but that is all coming to an abrupt end. According to a March, 2024 article in Restaurant Business there are just 27 Boston Market locations in the country.

Keep in mind, this is a fluid situation and these restaurants have been dropping like flies recently. Back in November there was an avalanche of closings, the New Haven Register says seven B.M. locations closed the doors in 2023, including:

  • Danbury
  • Old Greenwich
  • West Hartford
  • Stratford
  • Meriden
  • Wilton
  • East Haven

The NHR adds:

The closings come as U.S. Labor Department officials are investigating the company in various jurisdictions across the country for non-payment of wages and workers being paid late.

What presence does that leave in the Nutmeg State? According to the Boston Market website, there are four locations still open listed as:

  • Newington
  • Milford
  • Old Greenwich
  • Meriden

Which does not make sense, either there were multiple locations in Old Greenwich and Meriden or the company was too busy closing stores to remove these towns from their website. I guess if we cross-reference the two lists and assume BM failed to remove these locations, there are just two dirty stayouts left, one in Newington and one in Milford.

But there is no point in overcomplicating things, the fact is the chicken party has come to an abrupt end. I know they say not to count your chickens before they are hatched but a little bird told me the chicken scratch (writing) is on the wall.

The spots that are left may be able to hang in there for a few more days, maybe weeks but at the end of the day, time flies and all good things must come to an end, a bloody chicken massacre.

Boston Market is no spring chicken and eventually they were going to fly the coop. They were never really all that high on the pecking order anyway, it's time for someone else to rule the roost. It's good that we were able to talk about it because I don't want to walk around on eggshells with you.

CONCLUSION: There are 2-4 locations left in Connecticut and there will probably be zero by the time you read this.

New Indian Restaurant in Brookfield is Knocking Socks off Feet

Situated at 15B Federal Road, Bar Naan is currently the talk of Greater Danbury. It all started when my wife, Erica, went there last week and couldn't stop raving about it. Uncharacteristically, she asked if I'd join her for a return visit, and I was down.
