Mayor Mark was thrilled to give i95's Ethan and Lou the major scoop about the famous Uncle Sam statue.

Let's recap: The 38-foot-tall Uncle Sam statue from the Danbury Fair days arrived back in Danbury in December of 2018 after greeting the public for 35 years at the Magic Forest amusement park in Lake George, NY. After spending a couple of months inside a Danbury Airport hangar, Uncle Sam boarded a big-ass flatbed and was transported to Harwinton in Litchfield County for refurbishing. See the photos from right before it was refurbished here.

Mayor Mark gave us the news on Friday morning, April 5, that Uncle Sam's restoration was complete. When we asked a follow-up question about a possible location for "Uncle Sam," here's what Mayor Mark told the two of us:

Placing Uncle Sam in Danbury's western corridor is just not going to work as I had hoped. I was afraid that somebody might try to take a selfie with the statue which would be dangerous on busy Mill Plain Rd.

Mayor Mark then proceeded to tell us that the 38-foot-tall statue was going to live at the Danbury Train Station right next to the Danbury Railway Museum. He went on to tell me that they'll be a special dedication ceremony around Memorial Day. Welcome home, Uncle Sam!
