A local teen has been arrested after police say she was the source of a text message thread that allegedly threatened a shooting at Danbury High School.

The investigation began when Danbury Police Department received several reports of the very concerning text messages having been forwarded to many students and parents within the community on Tuesday, November 26.

Police say the original messages were sent to an unidentified Danbury HS student, asking if he or she would be at school the following day, November 27, then suggesting that said student would be the "first" target of a shooting. At the time, the source of the text was unknown, as police believe it came from a spoofed phone number.

From there, the DPD's General Investigations Division worked alongside the Danbury High School Resource Officers and the school's administration in hopes of getting to the bottom of the situation. Police say the investigation involved numerous search warrants, interviews and other investigative techniques, but in that time, they were reportedly able to identify the unnamed 14-year-old Danbury female as the source of the thread.

The female teen was placed under arrest on Thursday, December 12, and charged with threatening and breach of peace, and will appear in juvenile court at an undisclosed date.

Police note that this is the second arrest made in regards to social media threats made to Danbury High School students. In a statement prepared by Danbury Detective Sergeant Adam Marcus and Detective Lieutenant Mark Williams, the DPD and the school administration reiterated that they "will continue to vigorously investigate all serious threats made to any students, faculty or schools in the City of Danbury."
