The Danbury Fire Department trains for rescues called "Man In Machine," where a person may have a limb stuck in a lawn mower or snow blower. Today (August 15) that training came in handy for a "Tot In Toy" rescue.

According to a press release from the Fire Department, Rescue 1 personnel were sent to a call to rescue a child with his hand stuck. Upon arrival, they found that a 2-year-old had gotten his arm stuck in the smokestack of a large Thomas the Tank Engine toy.

After a few unsuccessful attempts to back the child's arm out, firefighters decided to take the toy apart. They found that the tube that the child's arm was stuck in was actually some sort of ball launcher and that a bracelet on the child's arm had gotten stuck in the launcher's gear mechanism.  After about 20 minutes of dismantling the Thomas toy, the child's arm as freed, and according to the Fire Department, "the child went back to playing with other toys."

Great job to the Danbury Fire Department for their quick thinking, and also their sense of humor in the press release.
