The Governor of the State of Connecticut has ordered American flags to be lowered to half-staff to honor a State Trooper who passed away on Thursday.

Governor Daniel Malloy has asked residents to keep Trooper First Class Walter Greene and his family in our prayers. Trooper Green responded to the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He had been battling cancer which was a direct result of working at Ground Zero and therefore his death is considered to be 'in the line of duty'.

In a statement issued yesterday, Governor Malloy praised Trooper Green as a "hero" and commented on his bravery and integrity. Greene also served in the United Stated Marine Corps for four years and joined the Connecticut State Police in 1990. He has an impressive body of service to our state which includes his assignment to the Statewide Cooperative Crime Control Task Force, his work as a K-9 handler and he was also a Master Instructor fo Motor Services.

Our hearts are heavy as we send our deepest condolences to Trooper First Class Walter Greene's loved ones. If you'd like to contribute to Trooper Greene's family, a GoFundMe page has been set up in his honor.
