Sunday afternoon, a boating accident, which occurred on Candlewood Lake in Brookfield, claimed the life of one of the two men on board the boat.

According to NBC Connecticut News, police have identified 48-year-old Gary Hayes of East Hartford as the man who passed away when the 17-foot motor boat he was aboard reportedly capsized. The other man on board, 29-year-old Joseph Miranda of Manchester, was not harmed.

The Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) fielded a distress call around 12:30 PM. As they responded to the call, Hayes was found in the water and was taken to Danbury Hosptial, where he was treated and passed away from his injuries. Miranda, who swam himself to shore, reportedly refused medical treatment. Fox 61 quoted Chris Collibee, Director of Communications, for Encon as saying:

Police Officers responded to Candlewood Lake in Brookfield for a report of a capsized 17 foot motorboat. Two males were recovered from the vessel. One male is safe and unharmed, a second male was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

This news makes it a sad day for boaters in Connecticut.
