Disaster relief and Global Health Organization, Americares is preparing for the Category 4 hurricane heading for the East Coast. The Danbury and Stamford based emergency response group is busy packing life-savings supplies to send to the Carolinas and Virginia, including bottled water, hygiene kits, and medical supplies for displaced families.

Currently 1.7 million people along the coast and across three states are being warned to evacuate.  Weather.com  reports that Florence is likely to be one of the strongest storms on record for this area of the East Coast. Hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued, and catastrophic inland flooding and major river flooding are expected.

According to Fox61 News, the emergency response team from Americares will arrive in North Carolina by Thursday, putting their own safety at risk in order to help others in need.  Americares responds to an average of 30 natural disasters each year including humanitarian crises worldwide, and is considered the world’s leading nonprofit provider of donated medicine and medical supplies.
