Recently, 247wallst.com, came out with an article about the worst CEOs of 2016 and some of those companies do business in our area.

  • Barnes & Noble CEO, Ronald Boire - The company lost $26.4 million in its 2016 fiscal year. Despite the incompetency of Boire, all of the area Barnes & Noble stores are still a joy to shop! You can find B&N stores in Danbury, Milford, Farmington, Westport, and North Haven.
  • Macy's Inc. CEO, Terry Lundgren - Macy's has experienced declining profits over the last two years. Their three year stock price change is -32.07%. You'll find Macy's at Danbury Fair.
  • Staples, Inc. - CEO Ron Sargent stepped down after 14 years with Staples after bungling a $6.3 billion merger with Office Depot. Over the last three years, Staples stock price change is down 43.08%.
  • Wells Fargo & Co. - CEO John Stumpf is under investigation by the Department of Justice for questionable sales practices. He is now out as CEO to make room for COO, Tim Sloan. Since the takeover, the company's share price has gone up 20%. There are currently several Wells Fargo locations in the Greater Danbury area.
  • Whole Foods - CEO, Walter Robb and Whole Foods have been embroiled in various scandals over the years. Add the rapid expansion from 12 to 460 stores and increasing competition and you've got declining profits. Over the last three years, Whole Foods stock price change averages -45.58%.

I mean no ill will towards any of the companies listed above, in fact I shop at Barnes & Noble and Staples on a regular basis.
