This past Friday, in the restroom at the Danbury Walmart, Aimee Toms was washing her hands when a stranger approached and told her she was disgusting and she didn't belong there.

And so it begins. According to the NewsTimes, Aimee Toms, who has a short, pixie haircut, was verbally assaulted in the Danbury Walmart ladies room after another woman had mistaken her for a transgender person.

Ms. Toms understands why she might be mistaken for a boy. She had a baseball cap on, and her hair is short because she donated to an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer. She thinks the verbal harassment was fueled by the law that was passed in North Carolina titled HB2, that states you may only use the restroom that is identified by the gender on your birth certificate.

Why can't we be more tolerant of the human condition, which is always in flux and always will be until the end of time?

I don't understand that after hundreds of years, millions upon millions of deaths can be attributed to racism and religious persecution. We've grown to accept the concept of, "I hate you because you're not the same color as me," and "I hate you because you don't believe what I believe, so you must die."

Doesn't the Declaration of Independence state that,

We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal.

Is it not that simple? Or should it have been written that our unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness can only become a reality if you look like me, and believe what I believe.

My take, for what it's worth, is that we'd better get our s--t together before God calls an audible for a do-over.

Here is a video that Aimee Toms posted to her Facebook timeline after the incident:
