The Heat Is On: Advisories Issued For Our Area Through Wednesday
The actual definition of a "Heat Wave" is when temperatures reach or exceed 90 degrees for at least three days. Well, get ready, 'cause here we go again.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Greater Danbury, Putnam and Dutchess County in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Look for temperatures to climb well into the 90s for the next three days. Also look for the heat index to be close to 100, and on Wednesday closer to 105.
Today (August 27) will just get the ball rolling on the heat wave, with temperatures right around 90. Then, get ready as the heat and humidity will increase tomorrow, and Wednesday looks to be the hottest day of the week, with temps in the mid 90s, but feeling more like 105 degrees. Cooler temperatures are on the way for the end of the week headed towards the long holiday weekend.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity combines to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Some good tips during this latest hit wave, drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on elderly relatives and neighbors.
