Lou and I recently interviewed Jack Stetson, the author of a new book about the Great Danbury State Fair.

The book is titled The Life and Times of the Great Danbury State Fair. For those like myself who find the rich history of Danbury, CT a fascinating read, this book was written for you. 72-year-old Jack Stetson, the author of this book, walked into our studio with three of his books under his arm and sat down in front of a microphone to give our listeners a preview of his new book about the great Danbury State Fair.

Jack's late grandmother, Gladys Stetson Leahy had already completed a manuscript about the Danbury Fair in 1956, which was never published. Going through his late grandmother's treasures, Jack found the manuscript after her passing in 1981, but had to put it aside at the time. But in 2015 at the age of 71, he decided to complete what his grandmother had started, and added some of his first-hand experiences growing up in and around the Fair. One of the Fair's greatest attractions was the Danbury Racearena.

Yes, boys and girls, there is a remarkable history before the Fair was torn down to make way for one of Connecticut's most beautiful and largest shopping malls, and it's all in Jack's new book. This marks the 35th year since the Fair was closed for good. Usually, the first weekend in October was the Fair's opening day, which is why Jack has decided to formally release his book on Saturday, October 1st.

The newly published book, The Life and Times of The Great Danbury State Fair will be available at a book launch and signing event with the author, Jack Stetson at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society at 43 Main Street in Danbury from 4 PM until 7 PM. Other books that highlight the history of the Danbury Fair, like The Great Danbury State Fair by Andrea Zimmerman can be found at Amazon.com.
