Several inches of snow have blanketed the Danbury-area, as well as Putnam and Westchester counties.

Here's how much snow fell so far (click here for the latest totals), according to the National Weather Service:

On the first day of March the snow is still falling hard, but should be over with before Monday morning's commute. February was the coldest month in recent history since 1934.

The National Weather Service has issued the following alerts:

  • Tonight: Snow, mainly before 1am. Low around 24. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of snow and freezing rain is expected in the area on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Weather Advisory from Sunday at 10 am to 7 am on Monday, and warns of snow and about a tenth of an inch of ice.

Here is the NWS’ forecast:

  • Sunday: Snow, mainly after 1pm. High near 26. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Sunday Night: Snow, mainly before 2am. Low around 23. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
  • Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 35. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
