Eight year old Leah Brewer's family and friends had a scare last night, as they reported her missing from her home town of Hamden, Connecticut earlier this morning according to NBC Connecticut Channel 6 News. At about midnight police issued a Silver Alert, which was in turn cancelled just prior to 5:00 am.

It seems to have been an issue of confusion, as family members thought that Leah was with her mom, Jaimee Hutton. Family members couldn’t reach the mom, so to be safe they contacted police, and then the police issued the Silver Alert through the overnight.

Leah's mom, Jaimee forgot her cell phone, and she returned home with her daughter much later than the family anticipated, the police stated.

The Silver Alert is a mass notification system to alert the public about missing persons. According to Wikipedia, the Silver Alert is usually used for the elderly and most commonly AMBER Alerts are used for missing or abducted children.
