We know almost nothing is getting done today in terms of productivity in the workplace.  So, why, oh why, do we continue to ignore the fact that this is a National holiday? It's guilt. Guilt based on our concern that our children don't know the origins of our existing holidays. That is a concern. I agree. It is, however, no reason to ignore what is staring us in the face. Today, the Monday after a Super Bowl, is a money losing, effortless day. It's time to say enough is enough, and just make it a national holiday.

That does not mean that we throw away our collective worry that young people do not recognize or respect Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, the 4th of July, etc.

The best way to do it, is to add education about holidays to our students curriculum. Make it a part of he deal. Make the students understand and respect the holidays that matter, and, at the same time, allow for a holiday devoid of substance. It's not anything to be ashamed of. Many countries observe baseless national holidays, and those same cultures also manage to respect the ones that matter. Relinquish the guilt people. Time to stop wasting money by keeping the doors open. It's a holiday. We all take part in it, and none of us do much the following day.

This is a petition. Sign it. Make the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday.
