After the news came out that A&P was going bankrupt and closing area stores, we all began to wonder who would take over the stores.

Well it looks like the Danbury store on Padanaram Road finally has a new owner.

According to The News Times, officials from Wakefern Food Corp, parent of Shop Rite, confirmed they'll be taking over the A&P location in the North Street Shopping Center. This is 1 of 13 locations that Shop Rite is taking over from the bankrupt grocery chain, and the only one in CT.

There will apparently be some major renovations to bring the supermarket location up to Shop Rite standards, after the existing A&P closes in November.

I'm a BIG Shop Rite fan as I regularly shop at the Brookfield location, simply for the best prices in the area. Hopefully this new Danbury location will follow suit with the competitive pricing!

A&P locations in Putnam County including Brewster and Mahopac will apparently be taken over by Acme Markets.
