Police: Three Arrested After Southbury Burglary + High Speed Crash

Three men have been arrested and accused of burglary and larceny in Southbury after an assumed attempt to elude officers ended in a high speed crash on an I-84 entrance ramp.

According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, officers responded to a burglary report on High Ridge Rd. Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 2). Southbury officers say that they spotted a dark, 4-door Mazda headed south on Rte. 172, which matched the description of the car that was reportedly leaving the scene of the burglary. At that point, the officers began to follow the Mazda as it headed toward another group of state and local police.

Upon spotting the police, the suspected vehicle sped up and attempted to turn onto an entrance ramp headed westbound on I-84. The driver soon lost control, driving the car into the guard rail. Police say all three suspects then attempted to escape on foot, but with the help of CT State Police K-9, all were apprehended.

It was soon determined that the Mazda had been reported stolen from Watertown, and officers said that the items stolen from the Southbury residence were found inside.

All three suspects, 20-year-old Marcos Ruiz of Waterbury, 19-year-old Steven Sanchez-Rodriguez of New York City, and 21-year-old Deion Wilson of Whethersfield, were arrested and charged with burglary and larceny. Ruiz, who is believed to be the driver of the stolen car, was also charged with reckless driving and evading responsibility among other driving violations.
