Police: Car Stolen, Driver Arrested After Rollover On I-84

A reported high-speed chase ended up in a roll over on Interstate 84 yesterday afternoon (March 26).

Connecticut State Police report that a Trooper was monitoring traffic at eastbound exit 10 in Newtown, and just before 2:00 PM on Monday, a car passed him that had been marked with a suspended registration. Police say that as the Trooper began to follow the vehicle, it accelerated to more that 115 miles per hour, and disappeared east of exit 11. About a minute later, it was reported that the trooper in pursuit found that the same car had rolled over on the shoulder of the highway.

As the Trooper exited his cruiser and approached the car, the driver allegedly fled out of the back window, climbed a fence, and ran onto River Road in Southbury, however, local police and state troopers alike had surrounded the area, capturing him within minutes. The driver, 28-year-old Nathaniel Calloway of New Britain, CT, was taken to Waterbury Hospital for an evaluation and later released to State Police.

The vehicle that Calloway was allegedly driving turned up to be stolen, and had a few surprises inside. Police uncovered a set of brass knuckles and a large amount of cash.

Calloway was charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, larceny, and reckless endangerment among other motor vehicle charges, and is being held on $50,000 bond. A court date has been set for April 12, 2018 in Danbury.
