A 38-foot statue of Uncle Sam is coming back home to Danbury from Lake George, NY.

Back in June, Ethan reported on the possibility of this happening and now Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton says the deal is nearly done.

The enormous statue was a fixture at the famous Danbury Fair from 1971 to 1981, when the fair closed shop for good. Since 1981 the statue has spent it's time as an attraction at the Magic Forest Amusement Park in Lake George, NY. Here's the great conversation we had with Mayor Mark Boughton about how he's working on bringing the iconic piece of history back to the Hat City:

Now with the handshake agreement to purchase it back in place, just a few details remain. The statue must be refurbished, stored for the winter and will likely be installed in the spring. Some fund raising still needs to be done and volunteers to get it back to it's old glory will also be needed but we are almost there. If you are interested in helping out with fund raising or to work on the statue contact the Mayor's office at Phone: (203) 797-4511.
