I think this is a very cool idea for our state capital to embrace.

Cycling around cites is often a wonderful way to see the sights. But not everyone wants to travel with a bike, not to mention that not everyone owns a bike. Hartford Connecticut is looking to solve that issue soon.

In a story from courant.com it looks like a bike sharing startup company will make their debut in our state this spring. You may have seen bike share programs in major cities like Manhattan and Boston, but LimeBike has an interesting twist to it.

Information about how the company works can be found at limebike.com and this promotional video

So there you go. With LimeBike you get to leave the bicycle wherever you want once you are done with it, and it locks and is ready for the next rental.

I've spent a lot of time over the years in Hartford, and the first thing that comes to my mind is that there aren't a ton of dedicated bike lanes. While the area has worked towards being bike friendly, it's not quite there yet. I can only imagine that there will be much debate about this new venture. The Hartford Courant reports that Hartford officials will hold numerous meetings with LimeBike reps over the next few months, and those meetings will be open to the public.
