UPDATE: 4:39 PM -  The identity of the local woman has been released. According to rep-am.com, 27-year-old Christina Robinson of Wolcott was pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital after having to be extricated from her car with the jaws of life.

The driver of the other vehicle in this tragic accident has been identified as 57-year-old Loreta Calabrese Vaichus of Woodbury. She also had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Middlebury FD, and then transported for treatment via Life Star, but as of this posting, there has been no update on her condition.


 

Late Monday night tragedy struck when two cars collided head-on in Middlebury.

Nbcconnecticut.com has reported that two cars were involved in a head-on collision on Monday night. Investigators from the Naugatuck Valley Reconstruction Unit told NBC CT that there was one individual in each vehicle.

One driver was pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital and the other driver sustained serious injuries. The drivers have yet to be identified. The accident is currently under investigation.
