It's time once again to play ball. The 2018 Baseball season is officially underway, and over 700 Major League players are taking the field, there's even a few from our local area.

It takes a lot to make it to the Majors. Millions of kids dream of playing in a big league game, stepping up to the plate, or taking the field in one of the 30 Major League Ballparks across America. But only a few actually get that chance.

Here's a list of the top five players who have had their chance in "The Show", and who are from our local area.

    Matt Barnes - Danbury, CT

    Matt Barnes was born in Danbury, Connecticut. Barnes was 24-years-old when he broke into the big leagues on September 9, 2014, with the Boston Red Sox. He also pitched locally for Bethel High School.

    Eric Scribner - New Milford, CT

    Evan Scribner was born in New Milford. He played baseball at Central Connecticut State University. He also pitched locally for Shepaug Valley High School. Scribner signed as a free agent in March with the Tampa Bay Rays.

    Charlie Morton - Redding, CT

    Charlie Morton wasn't born in Connecticut, but Morton played baseball at Joel Barlow High School in Reading and graduated from there in 2002. The former Pittsburgh Pirate and Philadelphia Phillies hurler joined the Houston Astro's in 2017 and was a key to their first World Series title ever.

    Dave Fleming - Mahopac, NY

    Born in Queens, Dave pitched locally for Mahopac H.S. He attended the University of Georgia and was selected in the 3rd round of the 1990 MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners. He won 17 games in his rookie season before an arm injury put an end to his professional career. Today you'll find Dave giving pitching lessons at the All Star Batting Range in Brookfield.

    Joe Lahoud - Danbury, CT

    Joe Lahoud was born in Danbury, Connecticut. Lahoud was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 10, 1968, with the Boston Red Sox. Joe played for 10 season with the Red Sox, Brewers, Angels, Rangers, and Royals.
