A fire that broke out early Tuesday morning did serious damage to the Hi-Way Package Store on North Street in Danbury.

According to the News Times, firefighters responded to the blaze just past 6 AM this morning (July 18)The fire was brought under control by 6:30 AM, but not before there was serious smoke and fire damage to the location, which is just a short distance from the I-84 entrance ramp on North Street.

The Hi-Way store is the same store that was the scene of a murder back in 1999, when then store manager, Robert Gallo, was gunned down. Gallo was shot five times by two men in an apparent robbery attempt. Five years after the tragedy, a Bridgeport man was convicted and sentenced to 75 years in prison.

There's no word at this time when or if the store will reopen for business.
