Unclaimed Property in Connecticut – Does the State Owe You Cash?

If I thought there was a chance in hell that some of my money was kicking around, I sure would seek it out, wouldn't you? So let's get cracking.

Honestly, I did find my parents name on the state list once. It wasn't a lot of money, but it belonged to them, so we did what the directions said, and got the money. I mean, who wouldn't?

State Treasurer Denise L. Nappier says it's time to check the CT Big List of unclaimed property.

Danbury, by the way, is number eight on the list, while Stamford claims the number one slot with 66,135 bank accounts and other property worth a total of $51.1 million unclaimed.

The Office of the Treasurer says that overall, most of the outstanding balances are pretty small -- in the $50 and $100 range -- and some are worth between 100 and 500 dollars. But there's even 10 unclaimed accounts that are each worth at least $500,000. Cha - ching!
