A dead body was found in the woods in the Hudson Valley.

On Friday, members from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department found a man’s body in a wooded area in the Town of Southeast. It’s believed the man was about 40.

The man was believed to be homeless and was apparently living in a makeshift man-made encampment in the woods where his body was found, police say.

A friend of the unnamed man found the body Friday shortly before 10 a.m. Friday. Responding officers met the caller who led them to an encampment several hundred feet in from Allview Avenue, just north of the Village of Brewster.

The caller told officials it was days since he last saw the man alive.

At this time, there is no indications of foul play. It’s assumed that exposure to the cold and freezing temperatures led to the man’s death.

While at this time the death isn't considered suspicious, the case remains under investigation. Anyone who may have information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 845-225-4300.
