Danbury Police arrested two men on multiple drug charges yesterday (October 24) after a lengthy investigation into drug activity at the Kennedy Flats apartments.

According to a press release, police had been monitoring the activities of Orlando Cruz of Danbury following several citizen complaints about drug sales out of his apartment. Around 3:00 PM yesterday, detectives say they observed a hand to hand drug transaction between Cruz and Abdulwali Peterson of Naugatuck. After the alleged drug deal, officers reportedly seized three knotted plastic bags from Cruz. The substance in the bags tested positive to be cocaine, police said.

Cruz was arrested immediately. Peterson tried to run away but was apprehended after a brief chase on foot. During the chase, police observed Peterson throwing away a small scale, which also tested positive for cocaine.

After a search of Cruz's apartment, police also seized cellphones, drug paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Both men were charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell, and other drug charges. Peterson was also charged with interfering with the duties of a Police officer.
