It’s the busiest traffic holiday of the year and Connecticut State Troopers are getting ready.

At Midnight tonight and going through Sunday midnight, Police say there there will be a lot more Troopers on hand to handle the extra traffic during this long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Police plan to focus on aggressive, unsafe and drunk drivers.

Police are offering the following “while driving” tips:

  • don’t follow too close
  • drive the speed limit
  • stay off your cell phone
  • if you drink, then please do not drive

You might see them, you might not because police plan to use both marked and unmarked and they won’t be shy about issuing tickets issue tickets to reckless and distracted drivers.

If you drink, PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE. Police also remind anyone who suspects a drunk driver to call 911 because this is considered a true emergency. The following is a listing of the plans that police have put into place for the weekend:

Bridgeport Troop G

Wednesday – I-95, I-91 and Route 34 in New Haven

Friday - I-95, Route 8 and Route 25 in Bridgeport, Stratford and Trumbull

Saturday - I-95 in Stamford, Norwalk, Greenwich, and Route 7 in Norwalk

SundayThe Merritt Parkway (aka Route 15) from the NY State Line to the Sikorsky Bridge

Hartford Troop H

Wednesday- Sunday DUI/Sobriety Roving patrols from late night to early morning on I-84, I-91, Route 384, Route 291, Route 2 and Route 9

Bethany Troop I

Wednesday- Sunday DUI/Sobriety Roving patrols from late night to early morning on Route 15 and I-91

I-691 in Meriden and Route 8 in Shelton

Friday - spot checks from 6:00pm to 2:00am near Exit 6 in New Haven
