You can feel it in the air. The days are getting a little cooler, it's getting dark a little earlier, and soon, the school buses will be all over the roads again. Yup, it's time for the kids to get back to school.

So just when does school start in our area? Is it before Labor Day, right after Labor Day, or a few days later? The answer, all of the above.

We have put together a handy dandy list of schools in our local areas of Connecticut and New York, and when they start. There are quite a few different dates, especially in New York State. So, as a public service, here are the dates that schools will be opening up for 2016/2017.

Connecticut

  • Bethel - Aug. 31
  • Brookfield - Aug. 31

  • Naugatuck - Aug. 29
  • New Fairfield - Aug. 31
