A man accused of being a customer in a Danbury sex trafficking ring is apparently prepared to put up a huge amount of money to pay off civil lawsuits.

According to patch.com, a business man from Glastonbury, CT who is facing criminal charges in an alleged Danbury sex trafficking case agreed Tuesday to turn over $25,000,000 in assets to be held in trust pending the outcome of a civil case in Bridgeport.

Bruce Bemer is accused of participating as a customer in a 20-year sex ring ran by Robert King near the Danbury Airport.

Bemer agreed before a Superior Court Judge on Tuesday to the prejudgment settlement. This type of settlement is made in cases where a large civil verdict or settlement in a civil case is expected. The preemptive strike by Bemer was made the day before his alleged victims were expected to take the stand and testify.

An attorney for some of the victims told ctpost.com why it was a smart move for Bemer to agree to the settlement:

The testimony would have been overwhelming and the deprativity it would have revealed is something I’ve never seen before, Bemer was very smart to come to his senses and resolve this issue. We are putting our clients in a position where they will be protected financially going forward while we proceed with the case.

Bemer was arrested back in March and charged with patronizing a trafficked person in what authorities called a long-running human trafficking ring based in Danbury. Police allege the ring exploited young males with mental health issues by delivering them to wealthy clients throughout the state for the purpose of sex for money.

Bemer owns the New London-Waterford Speedbowl and Bemer Petroleum Corporation in Glastonbury.
