Nicknamed "Frankenstorm", Superstorm Sandy banged into Atlantic City, NJ at around 8 pm on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, brandishing 80 mph winds.

According to livescience.com, as Sandy moved up north along the Jersey Shore, it produced a record storm surge of water as it hit New York City. By Monday, Oct. 31, 8.5 million people in 15 states were without electricity. It's a fact that Sandy unleashed most of its destructive wind and rain along the New York and New Jersey coastlines, but the Connecticut coast also got pummeled.

The town of Fairfield resembled a blacked-out, war-torn ghost town with debris from torn-up homes and buildings combined with windblown sand. Sandy's fury was felt from Westport to New London. Over 1,000 trees came down and 5,000 citizens had to be evacuated. Believe it or not, 6 homes were actually washed out to sea and many others had to be condemned because of the damage. Hurricane Sandy caused $20 billion in property damage and $30 billion more in lost business which makes it one of the costliest natural disasters on record in the country. We all know these Superstorms are a dream-come-true for meteorologists as evidenced by the following video.
