I cannot pretend to know the solution to knowing how to stop guns from making their way into schools, but the dialogue needs to start again now.

With all that has gone on with guns and schools in this country especially here in Connecticut, and the countless tragedies all throughout this country how can this still be happening?

According to the News-Times, New London Police are investigating an incident that took place at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School where a handgun was fired in the bathroom of the school and then left behind on Wednesday.

There were no reports of any injuries and the children were moved to a secure location.

The police and first responders in this country do an amazing job when an incident like this occurs. We all however have to proactive and not reactive to this issue.

Whenever I hear about something like this all I can think about is, "Are my children in school trying to learn and be with their friends?" And somewhere deep down I know from experience that they are not truly safe.

That's not OK and I know I am not alone.

This cannot be a fear we learn to live with it should be something that we make a thing of the past.
